V.I. rappers ranked according to lyrics, flow and influence.
Every year we have this recurring debate about who are the best rappers in the VI & USVI. Lists appear from individuals and corporations of all walks of life, however most don’t include any proper ranking system, guidelines or explanations. Our editors have created our own system and in this article we address this long standing debate head on.
#10 - P-Nut Deh Real Nut
P-Nut's influence among the youth is not questionable. His punchlines make his music memorable and catchy and can be played in the club as well as on the streets. He’s also shown some versatility by rapping about sentimental and important things to him like his family and for these reasons we believe he belongs on this list.
#9 - Pup D Flocca
The late rapper was a street icon and based on the events of his unfortunate passing he lived the life he rapped about. To this day his music still remains as some of the most played street anthems. Even though he's no longer with us, his music still stands up against most of what's being released presently and for that he belongs on this list.
#8 - 5’2
She’s relatively new compared to most on this list but her talent and potential have her on a trajectory that can see her rise on the list in the future. Paired with her voice and sex appeal her influence has sky rocketed very quickly and her smooth flow helps her stand out against most, for these reasons she's the first woman on the list.
#7 - Mullah Gwop
While his music may not be the most well produced and his flow could use some work he is one of the original rappers from chocolate city who “taught Tortola how to rap” and his influence is unmatched. No one has started more “slang” words or trends and he deserves his flowers.
#6 - Monea
It’s no doubt that Monea belongs here. she has had some success internationally with her hit song featuring Dexta daps “Inna Di World” that boast an impressive 3 Million+ views. Recently her style has evolved to include more singing rather than rapping but we haven’t forgotten that this queen has bars and for these reasons she's on the list.
#5 - Dave From the Grave
Another rapper on this list who’s broken out on an international scene. His music is a blended fusion of Florida & VI rap, some may compare it to a Kodak type sound as his music takes influence from his Haitian decent. He scores high in influence by showing most that you don’t need a big record label behind you to make it big.
#4 - Priceless
One of the most if not THE most consistent artist in the game and one of the newest members of West Bank, Priceless deserves to be in the top 5. He’s mastered his flow and his style is unique and original. His longevity is a testament to his talents which is why he's #4 on the list.
#3 - Banco BizMol
Formally known as Pep Dawg the young aspiring mogul first rose to notoriety when he was given his shot at rapping for a crowd at a beach jam. Since then he’s managed to stay consistently relevant and became one of the faces of the notorious West Bank Records. Many of his songs have become certified Street anthems as his music is staying true to its roots therefore securing him a spot at #3.
#2 - Killa Tooma
Over the span of his 3 major projects, "96 the weigh in", "the third pillar" and "vision builds kingdoms", Killa Tooma has honed his craft. His flow can compete with the best of them, his lyrics are witty and meaningful and his projects are always highly anticipated, for these reasons the Killa earns the number 2 spot.
#1 - Rock City
This dynamic duo has been blessing us with chune after chune for decades. Their versatility and song writing abilities have not only led to hits from themselves but from our favorite artist world wide. They are one of the first to make it big on the international scene and everyone wanted to be a rapper because of them. A combination of everything stated is why they're number 1 on our list!
